A BRIEF HISTORY OF NEVILLE

Dr Neville Hollingworth has always been an avid field geologist finding his first fossil in the Jurassic Marlstone Rock bed in Yeovil Somerset, at the age of seven. Determined to become a professional geologist Neville studied for a Geology degree at the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne followed by a PhD at the University of Durham specialising in the Palaeontology and Palaeoecology of the Permian Reef of north-east England. Neville was a research fellow at the Open University, a curator at the Geology department at Oxford Brookes University and now works as a Science programmes officer for the Natural Environment Research Council in Swindon Wiltshire. Over the years, Neville has made some spectacular discoveries in the Jurassic of southern England. Notable discoveries include a baby plesiosaur from the Oxford Clay, several Ichthyosaurs, crocodile skulls, fish, lots and lots of ammonites, dinosaur bones and latterly mammoth remains plus hand axes. He is also interested in minerals and has an extensive collection of very nice calcite, sulphides, and silicate minerals from the local Carboniferous. Neville has appeared on national television about his discoveries and also has a Blue Peter Badge. Neville is also a keen scuba diver and is attempting to match his underwater photography skills with his terrestrial ones.
