AMMONITE:
Amaltheus stokesi From the Middle Lias of the Dorset coast, South-West England. This well preserved specimen was found in a blue sandy limestone nodule that had formed as part of an horizon known locally as the 'Down Cliff Sands'. These nodules are often packed with pentacrinoid ossicles. Part of the external shell has been removed in places to reveal the calcite internal mold and a complex pattern of sutures. The specimen measures 3" (7 cm) across and was found and prepared by Mark.
